
How to find scholarships for Veterans and their Families
Private Scholarships
Private donor scholarships are posted in the Scholarship Center. New information may come into the Scholarship Center that is not listed below, so stop by our office on a regular basis.
AFCEA General Emmett Paige Scholarships Scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services or veterans and their spouse's dependents, who are working toward a degree at an accredited 4-year college or university in the U.S. Candidate must major in electrical or aerospace engineering, electronics, computer science, computer engineering, physics, or mathematics, and have a GPA of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. Army Emergency Relief Applicants must be (1) dependent children, step-children, or legally adopted children of soldiers on active duty, retired, or deceased while on active duty or after retirement; (2) unmarried; (3) U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents; (4) under the age of 22 on June 1st preceding the beginning of the school year for which the scholarship is requested. Applicant must also maintain at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Applications available on their website: http://aerhq.org/education.asp.
Dolphin Scholarship Foundation To receive a Dolphin Scholarship applicants must be high school or college children/step-children of (1) members or former members of the Submarine Force who have qualified in submarines and served in the Submarine Force for at least eight years; or (2) Navy members who have served in submarine support activities for a minimum of ten years. There is no minimum period of service for children of personnel who died on active duty while in the Submarine Force. Applications are available on their website.
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Scholarships are offered to deserving sons and daughters of U.S. Marines and children of former Marines in pursuit of higher education. Particular attention is given to students who have lost a parent or had a parent wounded in the line of duty.
Women's Overseas Service League These scholarships may be granted to women who are committed to advancement in military or other public service careers and have demonstrated such commitment through life experiences. Applicants must have a minimum of 18 credits and a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must also be enrolled for at least 9 credits in an institution of higher learning in a program leading to an academic degree, and agree to maintain academic standards. The World Wide Web is one of the fastest and easiest ways to look for scholarships. We do not recommend that you pay for scholarship search information. The following is a list of web site addresses to help get you on your way. After trying these, you can also click on the "Search" button on your web browser and use keywords such as scholarships, military, and veteran to see if there are more sites that you might want to try. The Scholarship Center has a computer with internet access available for students to use.
Fastweb
One of the largest free scholarship search services on the internet. Searchable database of more than 275,000 scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans. Students register online and fastWEB responds with a list of matching award programs. You can indicate your veteran status when filling out your information for the scholarship search. To select more than one criterion to be considered, hold the "Control" key down and click on your selections.
Fundfinder
This site contains a free web version of the College Board's Fund Finder scholarship database. The College Board's database contains listings of scholarships, fellowships, loans, internships, and other types of financial aid programs from 3,300 national, state, public, and private sources. You can indicate your veteran status when filling out your information for the scholarship search. To select more than one criterion to be considered, hold the "Control" key down and click on your selections.
This site allows you to browse all the scholarships that are only fro people who are Veterans or have military service. You can browse them all or narrow the search by selecting individual criteria.
