J. J. Veit Memorial Scholarship

Dr. J. J. Veit taught in the Physics and Astronomy Department for 32 years. He developed the optics and holography labs that became the core of Western's optics program. His dedicated teaching and high standards he set inspired and prepared many physics majors to obtain doctoral degrees in optical science and to then pursue successful careers in the optics field. This scholarship is for an applicant who is a declared physics major. Applicants will be judged on the basis of excellent academic performance in their physics, mathematics and computer science courses.

Willard A. and Anne W. Brown Astronomy Scholarship

Dr. Willard A. Brown is an Emeritus faculty member of the Physics and Astronomy Department. He taught from 1956 to 1984. This scholarship is for a Western Washington University student majoring in physics with a minor (or emphasis) in astronomy. Applicants are judged on the basis of excellent academic performance in their physics, astronomy, mathematics and computer science courses and on evidence demonstrating a strong interest in astronomy.
