The university offers a number of scholarship programs that are not restricted to a specific major or department. This section includes a description of these scholarship opportunities. Advancing Technology Education Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship, awarded for winter and spring of the 2012-2013 academic year, recognizes the growing need for support of students interested in teaching technology to faculty and students.
Recipient can be either an undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing.
Preference given to students who volunteer through the Student Technology Center.
Applicant must show a demonstrated commitment to advancing technology education.

American Association of University Women Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship is awarded to men and women students have at least 135 credits and the equivalent of senior or graduate standing as of the Fall quarter after application. Awards are made to students with academic achievement. In general, only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better need apply. Students must demonstrate financial need. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be used to determine financial need. Students must have a demonstrated financial need of at least $1,350.

Bill Reed African American Scholarship
|
|
|
The Bill Reed African American Scholarship is a renewable annual award based on merit and need. The scholarship provides support exclusively for African American undergraduate students who have been admitted to Western.

Elyse C. Alper Scholarship for International Studies
|
|
|
Don and Jan Alper established this scholarship in 2010 to honor and celebrate the life of their daughter Elyse and carry forward her lifelong joy of travel and in establishing friendships across continents. This scholarship will provide opportunities for students to study outside the United States at recognized universities and will promote and further greater international understanding and goodwill.

|
Facilities Management Scholarship
|
|
|
This fund was established through a gift from the National Association of College and University Business Officers in recognition of an innovative and cost saving floor-care program instituted by Western’s Physical Plant. Preference will be given to spouses, sons and daughters of Western employees within the Facilities Management Department. In general, only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better need apply.

Lucille Reiman Barron Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship was established by the late Lucille Barron, an associate professor of home economics at Western Washington University from 1945 until her retirement in 1978. Students who wish to apply for this scholarship must meet all of the following criteria:
-Female pursuing a degree or certificate to become self sufficient as the head of her household. Head of household refers to an individual who financially supports at least one other person in their home. Preference shall be given to a widow of a WWU faculty, administrator, staff member or student (in that order).
-Also eligible may be the wife of a WWU faculty, administrator, staff or student who is terminally ill or disabled and is no longer able to work. Special consideration shall be given to mothers of minor or college aged dependent children.
-Applicants must demonstrate financial need. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be used to determine financial need.
-Must attend at least half time
-Previous recipients of this award may re-apply for subsequent years.

Multicultural Achievement Program Continuing (MAP) Scholarship
|
|
|
Please note: New freshman and transfer students are not required to fill out this application to apply for the MAP scholarship. The Admissions Scholarship Committee selects these MAP recipients based on admissions application materials and the FAFSA.
Successful applicants must demonstrate solid academic abilities, strong leadership qualities and a commitment to multicultural issues and activities in school or the community. Students must be currently enrolled at WWU and have a minimum GPA of 2.3 at time of application.
Priority will be given to those students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Nabhi Ram Joshi Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship was established by one of Western’s most devoted patrons, Miriam Snow Mathes, in memory of Nabhi Ram Joshi, a foreign student who passed through the University over 90 years ago. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
-Full-time undergraduate Western Washington University students. New freshmen and transfer students are eligible to apply.
-Scholarship applicants must either have been born in India or have a parent or grandparent born in India.
-Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership qualities as well as high academic merit.
-Recipients of this award may re-apply for subsequent years.

|
|
|
This scholarship is offered to students who meet one or more of the following non-traditional categories:
1) Displaced Homemaker*
2) Dislocated Worker*
3) Delayed College Enrollment*
4) Students with Dependents*
5) Students with Disabilities*
6) Foster Youth*

Applicants must demonstrate financial need as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, students must be enrolled at least half-time with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Patricia Swenson Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Patricia Louise Green Swenson, distinguished graduate. This scholarship will be awarded to a student demonstrating academic merit and financial need. Students who wish to apply for this scholarship must meet all of the following criteria:
-Applicants must be currently enrolled, undergraduate students planning to attend full time for the upcoming academic year. Must be enrolled for at least one quarter prior to application deadline. Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible.
-Academic achievement. In general, only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher need apply. Fairhaven College students, please submit copies of faculty evaluations.
-Applicants must demonstrate financial need. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be used to determine financial need. Students should have a demonstrated financial need of at least $1,100.

Phonathon Legacy Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship; established in 2006-2007, rewards and encourages phonathon dedication and achievement among student fundraisers. The Phonathon Scholarship will be awarded to any undergraduate or graduate student employed by the WWU Foundation Phonathon with preference give to students with financial need who have also shown a high level of phonathon achievement and dedication during their time with the phonathon. The student must remain employed by the phonathon for the 2013-2014 academic year in order to receive the scholarship.

Talitha E. Carleton Memorial Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship honors Talitha Carleton, a gifted teacher whose strength of character, humanity and lively mind inspired many. The scholarship will be awarded to a continuing undergraduate or graduate student in the liberal or fine and performing arts. Students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above in their major area of study.

Western Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship program, established in 1994, is supported by contributions to the Western Foundation’s general academic scholarship program for students with high academic merit and achievement. Scholarships are for continuing undergraduates of sophomore, junior or senior status enrolled full time as of the upcomign fall quarter. In general, only students with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better need apply. Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible to apply.

Whatcom Educational Credit Union Scholarship
|
|
|
Scholarships will be offered by Whatcom Educational Credit Union (WECU) to Western Washington University students. These scholarships will be awarded to full-time students pursuing a degree, with the equivalent of junior or senior status as of the Fall quarter after application. Applicants must have financial need and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Applicants must be a member in good standing at WECU.

Women of Western Scholarship
|
|
|
The campus-affiliated group, Women of Western, offers scholarships to students who will have senior status and will be full-time students. Selection is based primarily on academic achievement. In general, only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above need apply. Other criteria, such as financial need, leadership qualities and activities also are considered. Special consideration may be given to students who are direct descendants of a member of Women of Western. Two letters of recommendation are required, at least one of which is from a WWU faculty member.

WWU Retirement Association Scholarship
|
|
|
This scholarship is made available through the generous contributions from the Western Washington University Retirement Association. Western students who wish to apply for this scholarship must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and attend at least half time. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher at the time of application. Students must have successfully completed a minimum of 90 credits as of the Fall quarter after application to be eligible for funding.
