Student Employee Recognition

Western Washington University employs thousands of students each academic year. Our student employees contribute to the academic and extra-curricular aspects that makes Western such an excellent community of higher education. Not only do the students help keep Western functioning, but the combined contributions of mentors, supervisors, and peers help our students enter the workforce as better future employees.

Every year the Student Employment Center hosts the Annual Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Recognition Reception. This is an opportunity to recognize the SEOTY nominees, as well as all WWU student employees! The reception highlights the noteworthy contributions of each nominated employee with a short quote from their nomination letter, a photo opportunity and a certificate. Additionally, the reception recognizes the roughly 2,000 student employees who have a positive impact on our campus. In an effort to recognize the excellence of our student employees, the Student Employment Center works with the National Student Employment Association, the Western Association of Student Employment Administrators and the Washington State Association of Student Employment Administrators honor a Western Washington University student employee with a Student Employee of the Year Award. The award winner is traditionally announced during National Student Employment Week the second full week of April. National Student Employment Week is a week designated to honor and recognize the contributions of all student employees of Western Washington University.

Help support this tradition! We hope to continue celebrating each of the nominees during a Recognition Reception. The Recognition Reception is a chance to recognize both the nominees and the ~2,000 current student employees that contribute daily to the Western Community. Since this reception is not a budgeted program, we greatly rely on donations through the Western Foundation to assist with making the event successful. Without these donations WWU would not be able to recognize the daily contributions student employees make that help make Western a vibrant learning community.
