Looking for Volunteers to Help with Ski to Sea!

It's that time of the year again, the Ski to Sea Race is just around the corner, and we need your help. We are looking for over 600 volunteers to help at the Ski to Sea "Big Race" this year. Volunteers can select which area they would like to help at. We'll need volunteers for before, during, and after the race to help keep this the race the best in the Northwest.


The Race Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers who have been coming back year after year (some for 20 years!). By volunteering, you join the Race Committee in making the Ski to Sea Race the largest and most fun community event in Whatcom County.

This is an educational, hands-on, experience in which the volunteer will work one-on-one in the water with a mentally or physically challenged person. We require a minimum eight week commitment from each volunteer and ask that they not participate unless they are able to commit themselves to these special people by attending regularly and enthusiastically one evening a week. Our goal is to provide each participant with his/her own pool buddy, and consistency is important. Position Summary

Are you interested in using the latest social tools to help our non-profit fight poverty?

Social networking team members will provide hands-on support for both the Social Networking and Marketing teams by building the Community Empowerment Network's presence on Facebook, contributing with our blog, and helping to broaden our overall social presence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participation in the identification of practical ways to address marketing and public relations needs through social networking tools such as blogs and social networking sites;
Prioritize assigned initiatives and tasks to improve CEN's social networking and blogging presence;
Keep apprised of new social networking trends and resources (sites, applications, features, revenue (donation) generating initiatives); and
Attend and participate in virtual bi-weekly meetings

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed

Basic knowledge of computer operations and fluidity with Facebook;
Good writing and communication skill;
Personal interest in blogging;
Strong experience with a variety of social networking tools;
Good at setting and implementing appropriate priorities;
Strong desire to become an integral member of a team; and
Desire to help with research for blog topics and/or writing blog posts

You must be able to commit to a minimum average of 10 hours a month. This is a "virtual" team opportunity which may be performed from home or another location.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN's) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are a small organization and so lines of responsibility sometimes overlap, but this provides a terrific opportunity for volunteers to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand their skills.
